The WM.556 Assault Rifle, manufactured by WellMax, is a fully automatic lethal anti-personnel weapon that Sam can use to defend himself against enemies.

Overview[]

The WM.556 is a fully automatic Lethal Anti-Personnel Weapon originally developed for the U.S. Army’s airborne division. After the Death Stranding, its design was adapted by Bridges, becoming their standard-issue rifle. The weapon’s modular components are stored in a compact cargo case that attaches to the one's suit, allowing for quick field assembly when needed.

The Level 1 rifle does not use Sam's blood, making it ineffective against BTs. However, it is capable of killing humans—an outcome with serious consequences in the post-Stranding world, where death can lead to the emergence of BTs and the risk of a voidout.

In addition to being issued to Sam, the rifle is standard equipment for the Bridges Security Team and is also used in its base form by the terrorist faction Homo Demens. Its modular design allows for a wide range of attachments, including a scope mount, cheek pad, grip adapter, and a retractable suppressor, making it highly adaptable in the field.

Two additional variants exist: the WM.556 NL, a non-lethal version designed for subduing human targets without risk of voidouts, and the HG Custom, which fires golden rounds coated in chiralium—enhancing its effectiveness against BTs.

Notes[]

  • The design data for the gun is given to Sam as a reward for reaching Connection Level 1 with the Waystation North of Mountain Knot City
  • Because the HG Custom fires golden rounds, this means that it will expend chiral crystals.
  • The rifle will continue to fire for as long as the trigger is held, but the longer the burst of fire, the less accurate it will become.
  • The WM.556 seems heavily inspired by the FN SCAR-H.
  • The scope mounted on upgraded models includes the text "FOR LAW ENFORCEMENT / BDG USE".
  • The rifle's magazine well reads: "FOR HUNT / VARMINT USE".
