Corpse of a MULE, terrorist, or other human. If left unattended, it will necrotise and turn into a BT. To prevent this from happening, cremate the corpse before it's too late.
– In-game Description

A Body Bag is a unique piece of Cargo that is created upon the death of a human. They are also used to transport living humans such as the Chiral Artist. Body Bags containing living humans will take damage like other cargo.

Transportation[]

Bodybagintruck

Sam can carry only one body bag on his back in addition to either 1 medium container or 2 small containers. Sam can carry people on his back who aren't dead as well. This is the only way to carry live humans. You can still ride the trike and drive trucks while carrying a body, live or dead. In a truck, the bag will be placed in the passenger seat.

Floating carriers can hold 2 body bags and nothing else.

Trikes can't carry any body bags as cargo, but Sam can ride a trike with a body bag on his back.

Trucks can reportedly carry 15 total body bags, 14 as cargo and one on Sam's back who will ride in the passenger seat.

Disposal[]

Once created, body bags containing corpses must be transported and immediately disposed of within 48 in-game hours. They can be disposed of in a number of ways:

  • The nearest Incinerator.
  • Dumping in Tar Pits.
  • Friendly outposts. Corpse Disposal will dispose of a body bag if you leave it inside the blue sensor perimeter. This will result in a loss of 200 Likes.

Necrosis[]

Should the body fail to be disposed of in this timeframe, it will undergo Necrosis and eventually become a Beached thing. Afterwards, it will kill the nearest human, resulting in a Voidout. This will destroy the entire map, instantly killing the player and causing a game over. The player will then be sent to The Seam and will be forced to reload a previous save file. As such, players are discouraged from using lethal Weapons against human enemies as each one killed will require disposal.

Hazardous Cargo[]

Due to corpses being considered hazardous cargo, they have some restrictions on how they can be handled.

No body bag (dead or alive) can be stored in private lockers or share lockers. You can not enter the private room while a corpse is on Sam's back and you can not store a truck in a garage with a corpse inside. However, you can enter a private room with a live human as cargo.

Outposts will not lower their bollards to allow you to enter if you are carrying a corpse. The greeting message will state "Corpse detected. Please transport corpse to incinerator for immediate processing. Security systems activated." They will not welcome you in like normal but you can simply drive around the bollards and use the rest of the features of the outpost with no danger.

In larger cities such as Lake Knot City, you can not enter the city because there is no way to drive around the bollards. If you need to use the city you will need to drop the body outside the perimeter.

Trivia[]

  • While in The Seam, Sam's strand and the vision of the baby will be shrouded in black.
  • All body bags will disappear once a previous save file is loading following a voidout.
