The Engineer is a prepper and delivery recipient of Sam's, and as his name suggests, an engineer.
Story[]
Background[]
The Engineer was born in a prepper shelter to two unnamed deceased parents, where he has spent the entirety of his life. It was there his parents taught him engineering, especially his father, who was a craftsman of tools. As a child, he was content with learning about the world from his parents' stories about the former USA and receiving what little Fragile Express could bring his family. This was until one day his family received a piece of equipment that was labeled "made in the USA," inspiring him to want a part in rebuilding what was.[1][2]
At some point before Sam's expedition, Middle Knot City was destroyed in a Terrorist attack using Fragile Express resources, causing the Engineer to lose his main source of supplies.
Sam's Westward Expedition[]
The Engineer was the first prepper approached by Sam during his westward expedition to have him join the UCA and the chiral network. In light of the destruction of Middle Knot City, the Engineer readily agreed to join the UCA, hoping to see the world he'd been missing. After joining, he provided the UCA with his own power skeleton and smoke grenade schematics and began research and testing on the evo-devo units and odradeks with the information made available to him by the network.[3][4]

- He is portrayed by Junji Ito, a Japanese horro manga artist. Ito, like Norman Reedus and Guillermo del Toro, was supposed to work with Kojima on a cancelled Silent Hill game for the PlayStation 4, Silent Hills.
