The First Prepper is a prepper and delivery recipient of Sam's. He's a seventh generation prepper, having gotten into that lifestyle well before the Death Stranding occured.

Background[]
Back when the First Prepper ancestors first decided shelter life was the only life for them, during the most intense moments of the cold war, there were two types of people: Those who wanted to nuke the rest, and those who wanted to nuke those other guys before they could nuke them first. Just when his kin started to think that maybe they’d be better off digging shelters for themselves, the men in charge actually pressed the big red button, the president got shot, and suddenly it seemed like the world really was going to tumble off a cliff. All this made more familes decide to become preppers, until there was a whole village of guys looking to dig themselves in and sit out the end of the modern world.
His grandfather was born on the cusp of the new century, a century a lot of folks thought they might not live to see, and in which more people than ever were taking up their way of life and so the Prepper Village became a Prepper Town. However, the century turned over just fine, but then a year later, when his grandfather was a child, a huge terroristic attack hit the United States of America, and so the preppers left their shelters to fight for "justice". The people got bogged down in wars overseas and faced ridiculous levels of inequality at home, resulting in people loosing their faith in the government, and a new generation of preppers was created.
Not so long after that, the Death Stranding happened. The US government actually thought the incident was another attack at first and they messed up their response against it, however, preppers like his grandfather were already prepared for that eventuality and didn’t need the country to take care of them. The event did not affect their lifestyle at all, even if, as the First Prepper admits, they weren't completely self-sufficient as they used porters to bring them what needed.
One day, over a decade before they met, the First Prepper heard rumors about Sam, the most famous porter.
Sam's Westward Expedition[]
Sam made contact with The First Prepper during his westward expedition and tried to get him to join the UCA and the chiral network, but he turned out to be a tough nut to crack. Due to his family's philosophy, he refused to join the UCA and preferred to talk to the porter as little as possible, and only as much as needed for the delivery. As Sam completes more and more deliveries and visits him, the First Prepper begins to tolerate him and waits for his deliveries to talk to him, until he finally decides to join the UCA and connect to the network, while not disavowing his family heritage.

- The First Prepper shelter is located in one of the most dangerous places of the central region, because it's just a few steps of a cliff and on slippery ground. It's located near the top of one of the highest peaks of the mountain range, just to the east of the Spiritualist on the other side of a tall ridge, overlooking a long drop down to the marshlands near the Craftsman where a MULE Camp is present.
- His ancestors became preppers during the most intense moments of the cold war, probably between the 60's or 80's of the 20th century, made they one of the first prepper family, also cover many of the most important events of the same century.
- Sometimes there may be a bug where despite having completed all his deliveries with perfect score and read all his emails the level connection stuck in 1 star. To solve this you should do over again his last order with perfect score and then he will level up and unlock more orders/emails.
