The Veteran Porter is a prepper and delivery recipient of Sam's. As his name suggests, he has been a porter for a long time.
History[]
The Veteran Porter grew up in post-Stranding America, where private porters picked up the slack for the destruction of the United States and its infrastructure, and eventually became one such porter.[1] He eventually joined a porter outfit led by none other than Higgs Monaghan, who apparently at that time did not have DOOMS but "had a nose for BTs." After Higgs became a Homo Demens, the Veteran Porter left and became an independent porter.[2] He has traveled all across the post-Stranding American continent, from the east all the way to Edge Knot City.[3]
Due to his experience as a self-sufficient prepper and porter, as well as his experience with Higgs, he has a profound distrust of large organizations as they have a potential to become corrupted by one bad leader.[4]
Sam encounters the middle aged Veteran Porter midway through his westward expedition, and delivers some medicine (implied to be for joint pain) to his shelter. The Veteran Porter is initially hesitant to join the UCA, and at first only forms a contract with Bridges but, after Sam gains his trust, he decides that people are better together than they are alone, and joins the UCA and Chiral Network.

Notes[]
- Like with many NPCs, the Veteran Porter won't give a single star until the player progresses in the story, and he is one of the most difficult preppers to establish a 5-star connection with. Although it's due to his rejection for Bridges, it's likely that it's also due to his high demand at the time and condition of deliveries since he has been a porter himself.
- Despite being retired he still wears the standard uniform of independent porters.
- He is portrayed by Sam Lake, the creative director of Remedy Entertainment, who was the writer and face model for Max Payne.
