West Fort Knot, designated F1, is a coastal city located in western Australia.
History[]
Background[]
Much like the UCA’s knot cities, the fort knots are residential centres that that also act as connection points and as its numbering suggests, West Fort Knot (F1) is the first fort knot built in Australia, with high perimeter walls that surround the city from one side of the coast to the other. In its early days, the inhabitants attempted to reproduce some indigenous instruments, such as the lithophone, a project aimed at comforting the souls resting on the continent that the Death Stranding had killed. However, perhaps because of the instrument, the project's participants died swallowed up by tar in a serious accident during the construction of the terreplein. This incident was later archived.
At some point, the North West Line, the coastal monorail line that connects the central town of West Fort Knot (F1) to Cape Fort Knot (F2) and North Fort Knot (F3), was built and completed. The monorail network was ideally intended to connect the surrounding towns and mines, however, in recent times, incessant timefall, hostile groups and BTs have made maintenance impossible so much so that the monorail line has become unusable.
Post-UCA Establishment[]
When the establishment of the chiral network spurred the creation of the first plate gate, connecting North America to Australia, confirming to Mexico and the UCA that the Australian continent had survived the Death Stranding, even more dramatic environmental phenomena (floods, incessant timefall, gate quakes, desertification, leaking tar, etc.) are beginning to occur, making it increasingly difficult for West Fort Knot to operate and maintain the safety of those within its walls.
When the APAS theorized that expanding the chiral network to the Australian continent would repeat the phenomenon, and probably stabilizing the continent as well, APAC, which now managed the chiral network on behalf of the UCA, prepared an expedition to cross the gate and install terminals for the expansion of the network. Travelling with the advance expedition was Olivia Westbury, a staff member involved with engineering and with a particularly interested in transportation and movement solutions, and is appointed as head of distribution pushing forward a plan to refurbish the monorail that had once connected West Fort Knot with its surrounding facilities and beyond.
Sam's Australian Expedition[]
During his expedition to connect Australia to the chiral network for Drawbridge, Sam must connect the base of the interim government first, a military commander who has chosen to live in solitude and the western observatory monitoring and studying the gate then, before he could head to West Fort Knot, when suddenly a tar eruption was recorded in the loading yard in front of F1. A group of figures clad in red and a large unidentified black mass were observed just prior to this eruption as well. Once Sam approach the tar on the ground a Giant Ghost Mech that has tentacles like an octopus is summoning from the tar, a threat that the porter, however, manages to destroy with the wreckage later recovered by some of Olivia's folks and taken into F1 for analysis.
Next, Sam must restore the mine north of F1, and the associated portion of the monorail, as F1 needs the materials it produces. At one point a huge gate quake strikes the western region, causing some damage inside F1 and to external structures. In the end, during his journey, Sam also restores all the monorails line and the related mines, finally connecting F1 with the remaining Fort Knots and the entire continent.
